Melissa Mahaffey

Doctor of Audiology

Getting to know her patients and their families is one of her favorite things about working as a dispensing audiologist at West Newton Hearing Center. Melissa always strives to exceed her patients’ expectations and works with each person to find the right hearing solution for them.

More About Melissa Mahaffey

After 12 years working for a hearing aid manufacturer as a trainer and account manager, Melissa is thrilled to be back in private practice in a setting similar to where she started her career back in Minnesota in 1996. She lives in Westwood with her husband, who is not only an audiologist himself, but a hearing aid user as well, and their two children – Kieran and Kiley.

Kevin Mahaffey

Clinical Audiologist

Kevin became interested in working to improve hearing through contact with students at the American School for the Deaf – he grew up in Connecticut just down the street from ASD. A hearing aid user himself, Kevin is invested in finding the best solutions technology can offer by listening to patients’ needs. In his words, “Fitting hearing aids well is part science, part art, and there is no substitute for experience!”

More About Kevin Mahaffey

Kevin began his career working clinically at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MA. He later transitioned to the training side of the hearing industry and became the National Sales Manager of Phonak.

Kevin has presented on the topics of hearing aid technology and verification techniques at a number of state and national meetings. He has been published twice in The Hearing Aid Journal focusing on programmable hearing aid technology.

Sarina DaSilva

Hearing Instrument Specialist

Sarina joined our practice in November of 2017 as an Audiology Assistant and has since become a Hearing Instrument Specialist. This position allows her to administer hearing tests, fit patients with hearing aids, repair malfunctioning hearing aids and educate patients on their hearing loss.

More About Sarina DaSilva

Sarina joined our practice in November of 2017 and started her training as an Audiology Assistant. After several years in the position, Sarina started her apprenticeship to become a Hearing Instrument Specialist. This program took over a year to complete and in March of 2021, she passed her exam to become a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist. 

When Sarina is outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.

Geoff Plant

OAM, BA, TTCTD, TPTC

Geoff is an Aural Rehabilitation Specialist who received the Medal of the Order of Australia for his “services to the hearing impaired community” in 1992. His career has been devoted to developing techniques to maximize patients’ ability to function with their hearing aids.

A Fixture in the Community

West Newton Hearing Center is now more than 30 years old and thriving. The practice has grown, with long-standing clients continually referring friends and family to us. And new partners have been added—Kevin and Melissa Mahaffey, a highly qualified husband-and-wife team, both of whom embrace the West Newton Hearing Center’s ethos of kindness and professionalism.

Our office staff are always available to schedule appointments, handle logistics and ensure that your experience with the West Newton Hearing Center is the very best.

 

Angela Gibney

Practice Manager

Angela joined our practice in 2009. She handles the daily operations of the practice as well as insurance billing, marketing and community outreach. Outside of the office she enjoys hiking and traveling with her husband and two sons.

Jenn Hardy

Audiology Assistant

Jenn joined our practice in June of 2022. She has over 15 years of experience working in Audiology practices. Jenn recently completed an online course through Nova Southeastern University to become a Certified Audiology Assistant. Jenn handles the Walk-In Hour and can troubleshoot any hearing aid related issues. Outside of the office she enjoys camping, reading and spending time outdoors.

Robert Atterbury

Client Coordinator

Rob joined our practice in November of 2022. He has several years of experience working in healthcare. He is always available to schedule appointments and handle all of your customer service needs. Outside of the office he enjoys playing in a band and spending time with his wife.

Our walk-in hours are for clients who would like their hearing aids cleaned or if their hearing aid is not working. More extensive work like Bluetooth pairings and reprogramming will still require an appointment. *Walk-in hours are not for Lyric hearing aid wearers.
